The Details

It’s time to channel your inner Jem & the Holograms fan girl (or maybe you’re more of a Misfit?) – let me introduce you to the Emmie Tee!

Emmie comes complete with two bodice versions – plain or slashed, as well as two different bodice lengths and a long sleeved pattern piece for those of us heading into the cooler months.

View 1 is ready to tackle your knit fabric scrap pile by combining the classic 80s slashed and pieced bodice with grown-on sleeves and a rounded neckline. The fabric combinations you can put together are endless – go for full rainbow, neutral colour-block or pattern clash perfection. You can even keep your top more subtle by using the same plain fabric for all pieces and letting the design lines sing for themselves.

If a classic t-shirt is more up your street, there’s also a cut-on-the fold front bodice (View 2), making construction even quicker and simpler for those just starting on their knit-fabric sewing adventure.

With a more relaxed fit through the bodice and a very gentle dropped shoulder/grown-on sleeve, both views include cut lines for a classic length t-shirt bodice as well as a long-line hem.

Then, depending on your season, keep the cuffed grown-on short sleeves or use the easy Turn & Hem long-sleeved pattern piece for year-round comfort.

Skill Level

Emmie is designed for knit-fabric beginners through to advanced seamstresses. If you’ve never sewn with knits before, Emmie is the perfect project to dip your toes into the wonderful world of knits.

Get creative with piecing together different knit fabrics or make the plain t-shirt – both are quick makes with techniques including sewing on a neckline binding, attaching cuffs to the short sleeves, and attaching long sleeves with hems.

Sizing

The Emmie Tee includes both the Original and Curve size ranges. The Original includes sizes 6-24 with A/B & C/D cup bodices, and the Curve includes sizes 16 to 34 with C/D & E/F cup bodices.

Plus, Extra Finished Garment Measurements included…

If you’re worried about choosing a size, I’ve also included a whole bunch of additional Finished Garment Measurements, from the standard bust, waist and hips to armscye circumference and back width.

Simply compare these measurements to a similar garment you already like the fit of (or one you know you’d like to alter) and you’ll be surprised at how much of the hard stuff is already done.

You can read about the new sizing here.

Fabric Options

Look for light to medium weight fabrics (around 180GSM). Fabric should have good stretch across the grain, approximately 40%, with good recovery.

Cotton/elastane (spandex/lycra) blends are the best choice for a breathable and easy-care garment that is comfortable and fits well.

All variations can be made with the same fabric as the body, or rummage through your knit-stash for contrasting colour and pattern blocking potential.

If using multiple fabrics, try to keep these the same weight and composition for a uniformly finished tee.

The Nixie+Trixie Bundle

Get the best of both worlds and combine your love for unique, comfortable, full bum coverage undies by purchasing both Trixie and Nixie in one go!

Update your undie drawer, safe in the knowledge that plumber’s crack, hungry bum and drab undies are a thing of the past.

Both Trixie and Nixie come with your choice of either Hipster or High Waist Briefs – instructions are included for finishing with fold over elastic (FOE) as well as lingerie elastic.

The high-waist style are perfect for pairing with fit’n’flare dresses and high waisted skirts and pants. As they sit at the true waist, they would also make the perfect 50s bikini bottom when made up in a swim lycra as well as the perfect lounge pant paired with a cropped lacy dressing gown.

Nixie’s delicate overlapped side curves can be overlapped either to the front or the back on both variations, making them a quick, satisfying and unique make.

Skill Level

Nixie+Trixie are the perfect undie pattern for confident beginners. Take your time with Nixie’s side curves and use a Tricot (or wide zig-zag) stitch around the elastic for both versions – you’ll have the prettiest and comfiest pair of knickers you’ve ever worn.

Fabric Options

The Nixie+Trixie Briefs should be made with stable knit fabrics that have a good amount of stretch across the grain. A minimum of 30% stretch is recommended for best results as Nixie+Trixie has built-in negative ease. A fabric with 4-way stretch is the best choice for maximum comfort.

Cotton/lycra (spandex/elastane) combinations work well for light-weight, breathable briefs, but other options include stretch lace/mesh, stretch rayon knits, power mesh etc.

The Nixie+Trixie Briefs were drafted using a 95% cotton 5% lycra spandex knit with a weight of 180GSM (grams per square metre).

I recommend using a breathable natural fabric like stretch cotton or bamboo for the gusset liner.

For more in depth information on choosing knit fabrics, please see here and here (though these were made for The Gable Top & Juniper Cardigan, the same fabrics were used for drafting these patterns).

The Trixie Briefs

The Trixie Briefs have a higher rise at the back and full bum coverage — they’re star jump proof and the ultimate in everyday comfort, all while being a quick and satisfying make.

With classic or panelled options, you can make Trixie in your choice of a modern hipster brief or a 50s-inspired true high-waisted style (sitting above your belly button, at your natural waist).

It’s time to get adventurous with those knit fabric scraps, mixing and matching to your heart’s content. Instructions are included for finishing with fold over elastic (FOE) as well as lingerie elastic, making for a total of 8 different variations all within one pattern.

Based on the popular Nixie Briefs silhouette, Trixie is like a warm, comforting (and comfortable!) hug for your bum. Your new all-day, every-day brief.

Skill Level

If the overlapping side curves of Nixie had you a little worried, Trixie will set your mind at ease.

Designed for Confident Beginners, Trixie Briefs are the perfect introduction to knits and elastic sewing. They’re small and quick, which means you can cut multiple pairs at one time, then build your knowledge and confidence with each pair made.

Fabric Options

The Trixie Briefs should be made with stable knit fabrics that have a good amount of stretch across the grain. A minimum of 30% stretch is recommended for best results as Trixie Briefs have built-in negative ease (i.e., they’re smaller than your actual measurements). A fabric with 4-way stretch is the best choice for maximum comfort.

Cotton/lycra (spandex/elastane) combinations work well for light-weight, breathable briefs, but other options include stretch lace/mesh, power mesh etc. Trixie is also the perfect bikini bottom when made up in swim lycra.

The Trixie Briefs were drafted using a 95% cotton 5% lycra spandex knit with a weight of 180GSM (grams per square metre).

I recommend using a breathable natural fabric like stretch cotton or bamboo for the gusset.

Up to hip 159.5cm or 62 3/4″

Check out the new Size Guide Info here.

The Details

The Pippi Pinafore will become your favourite go-to weekend dress. Darts and gently curved sides shape the bib, creating a silhouette that works across multiple bust sizes. The pleated front skirt and side button placket create a relaxed look while also stepping your sewing repertoire up a few notches.

Straps cross over the back and fasten to the bib using your choice of overall hardware or buttons (depending on what you have in your stash). And deep, curved patch pockets make sure you have room for everything you might need throughout the day.

Casual meets practical with a relaxed fit around the waist and hips. and when paired with a fitted knit Gable or Esme top (both available in the JLH Curve sizes) or your favourite shirt (perhaps an Aisling Blouse?), you’ll be ready for a weekend away in the woods or your favourite weekend brunch spot.

Sizing

The Pippi Pinafore now comes in both the Original and Curve sizes individually, or in an economical bundle option where you can access both size ranges together, from 6 to 34 with cups A to F. You can find the new sizing information here, including how to choose your cup size.

Pippi is drafted for an average height of 170cm or 5’7″

Multiple Bust Cups

Pippi is perfect for those who like the bib-style pinafore dress, but want more shaping around the bust for a better fit. With cup sizes A to F included, you’ll no longer need to make additional bust adjustments for the perfect fit.

Included in the instructions are a full set of Finished Garment Measurements, as well as detailed instructions on choosing the right size for your unique shape.

Skill Level

Pippi is a perfect project for the adventurous beginner seamstress and beyond.

Learn techniques like top-stitching, constructing a side button fastening and attaching patch pockets.

Fabric Options

Pippi has you covered year round – made up in chambray or linen and paired with your favourite t-shirt, you’ll be summer ready. And when winter temperatures hit, choose wool, corduroy or denim for the perfect dress layered over tights and boots.

Fabric with structure and some drape work best, but stiffer fabrics will lend a more defined quality to your Pippi Pinafore.

Lining Fabric:

The bib, waistband and button band are all lined pattern pieces – it’s important to choose a light-weight lining to keep bulky seams to a minimum (especially if you have a heavier weight fabric in mind). Cotton lawn, voile and poplin make great options, as do quilting cottons when using a lighter weight fabric for your main garment.
